Primary Assessment Procedures

At the New Forest Small School we assess all aspects of each child’s development, from the personal, social and emotional, to the academic. At staff meetings children are discussed in a holistic manner. The school’s assessment procedures for primary academic assessment are as follows - 

Classes 1 and 2

 

  • Daily formative assessment through observation & class discussion​

  • Quizzes & challenges to assess knowledge and understanding

  • Extensions to learning shared on Google Classroom

  • Opportunities for individual reading aloud.

  • Written report for parents on progress at the end of the summer term.

Class 3

 

  • Daily formative assessment through observation & class discussion

  • Regular time for individual reading, with opportunities reading aloud to an adult where necessary​​

  • Regular quizzes & academic challenges​

  • Gentle introduction of compulsory homework​​​

  • Written report for parents on progress at the end of the summer term.
