The Primary Class is for children aged between 7 to 12, attending either on a full time or part time basis. The class is limited to a maximum of 10 children attending any one session. Ideally we like children to attend a minimum of 3 days / week, for at least 1 academic year, simply as this ensures a level of continuity and better helps the child to settle quickly into the new social environment. Flexible Schooling The Primary Class offers a natural progression for those children who have attended the Kindergarten. The class is also specifically designed to meet the needs of parents who wish to take advantage of the opportunity to ‘flexi-school’ their children – attend school on a part time, flexible basis. The classes offer an ideal space for children who are home schooled but need a stress free and friendly place to socialise and work with other children. The classes are therefore able to accommodate children with a broad range of different needs and are always keen to work closely with parents, to both support and complement their home educational input. |

Our classes have a wide range of different ages and needs so our Schemes of Work are designed to be both flexible and resourceful. Special activities can be arranged at short notice to respond to current events and interests. We do have a timetable that we work around, however, in consultation with each parent, we can provide a learning programme specifically suited to an individual child. The timetable below offers a guide to how the day is roughly structured. |

Free Choice Periodis a time for the children to work on their own projects, read, draw and paint, play educational games, work on the computer or play quietly with friends. Some children may find this kind of choice daunting so guidance is always available whilst they gain self-motivation. This period is also an excellent time for one to one lessons – especially in literacy or numeracy. The School Meetingis a forum for the primary class to air any problems or queries they may have and to help each other resolve conflicts in a mature and responsible manner. The children are kept informed about any relevant changes in the school by staff and have the opportunity to debate any issues affecting them. The school meeting is an opportunity for the children to propose any changes they would like to see in the school or any specific projects or activities they would like to see the school undertake. The meeting provides the children with opportunities to work closely with one another and the staff. The meeting gives children experience in using power in a democratic and responsible way. |
