KINDERGARTEN ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES

The Kindergarten has a maximum of 12 children at any one time and averages 18 children in total, which allows staff to get to know children and parents well.

Staff meet at the beginning of each term to assess each child in all areas of learning and plan for the term ahead. NEG funded children have the record of achievement sheet which is referred to for assessment and planning. Where statutory school age children attend on a part-time basis their parents are advised re: lessons, which their child will not receive at school.

Each child has a file where termly assessments are kept along with aims for the term ahead. Staff refer to the files on a regular basis and work individually with the children to ensure targets are met.

Work from free choice and lesson times is accumulated throughout the year and kept in individual files. Relevant conversations with parents, staff and children are also recorded and filed, along with photographs, significant steps, observations and comments. These files are given to parents at the end of the year.
